Welcome to Fungi World

Fungi World is a photographic website showing what I hope are good quality photographs of predominantly British fungi. (910 to date). I have also included some photographs taken in the Republic of Ireland.

I hope that the fungi shown on this website are appreciated for their beauty, which in turn will hopefully promote better awareness and respect for this Third Kingdom.

In order to identify fungi accurately the habitat, dimensions (including cap and stem), colours of cap and stem, gills (colour of and structure), odour of the fungi, season, and possible chemical and microscopic tests should be carried out. It is not always possible to accurately identify fungi from photographs alone.

Visitors to this website should therefore view it as a Guide rather than an encyclopedia!

I have written a book entitled Field Guide to the Mushrooms of Britain and Europe. Published by New Holland. October 2016.
